SPRING NIGP TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

KPPA is proud to offer three separate National Institute for Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) courses scheduled for May 14 -16. All three courses will be held at the Transportation Cabinet located at 200 Mero Street, Frankfort KY 40622. You must be a member of the NIGP to receive the NIGP Member rate and provide your NIGP Pin # on the registration form. The Capital Plaza Hotel is within a comfortable walking distance with government employee rates available. Hotel reservations can be made by calling 502-227-5100 or visiting their website at http://www.capitalplazaky.com. Advise the hotel you are participating in the KPPA/NIGP training. You are responsible for making your own overnight accommodation reservations. Don’t miss out on this wonderful professional development opportunity! Registration deadline is April 25, 2008. Introduction to Public Procurement

Course Highlights: The work of public procurement is no longer a clerical function performed independently by various people throughout different agencies or departments within a government entity. This class provides an overview of the ever-changing profession by identifying fundamental concepts that will affect procurement in the public sector. This course is intended for individuals interested in an overview of procurement functions for the purpose of understanding the basic elements that underlie all areas of public procurement. Any government employee who has delegated authority to purchase good and services on behalf of the government should take advantage of this class. Discussion and content is relevant for those outside the profession, who are impacted by the public procurement environment.

Course Highlights: In an effort to prepare candidates for the written CPPB exam containing 240 questions, this course provides a review that incorporates key information contained in the NIGP curriculum and the CPPB Review Guide. Also covered is an explanation of the exam format, test taking tips, pretest samples, and a review of specific topics that have historically been problematic for candidates. Considered as a tool to help the student’s assess their own strengths and weaknesses, this course is only a part of the candidates overall study plan for preparation. Participation in this class does not guarantee success on the examination. Course Highlights: Many purchasing professionals are required to organize, write and interpret contracts. This session is designed to cover the structure and meaning of enforceable contracts. Contracts have a logical sequence and specific contract provisions. By learning the basics and rules for improvement, the principles become manageable. The seminar will offer tips and tricks on the language that can be used when writing contracts for any entity. The Intended Audience is all purchasing professionals who write, interpret and respond to contracts can increase their effectiveness by participating in this two-day seminar.
